Construction is progressing on Silverleaf Fire Station 22 and the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office Operations Center, a nearly 20,000-square-foot shared facility that will support emergency response in the north-central region of the county. The project remains on schedule, with construction completion targeted for late 2026 and final completion anticipated in early spring 2027. The Office of Public Affairs produced a video highlighting the project’s progress and features.

The facility will serve Silverleaf and surrounding communities along County Road 2209, County Road 210 and State Road 16, providing additional support to nearby fire stations. Its location will also offer access to the future First Coast Expressway, positioning first responders to serve additional areas of the county.

“Public safety is one of the most important responsibilities here in St. Johns County, and the new Silverleaf Fire Station and Sheriff’s Office will give our first responders the facilities they need to better serve our residents,” said Lance Alred, Capital Improvement Program Manager for St. Johns County Public Works. “At the end of the day, this project is really about being prepared, supporting our first responders, and keeping our community safe.”

Fire Station 22 will house:

  • A fire engine.
  • A tower truck.
  • A tanker.
  • A rescue unit.
  • A battalion chief.

The station is planned to accommodate approximately 33 firefighters across three shifts, with 11 firefighters assigned per shift to provide around-the-clock emergency response.

The station’s living spaces will include:

  • A day room and kitchen.
  • Two bunk rooms.
  • Separate living quarters for the battalion chief, captains, and lieutenants.
  • A shared gym and training area for Fire Rescue and Sheriff’s Office personnel.

“County leadership has invested in first responder mental health, so the relief that this station will provide is another effort to support our men and women so that they can be there for us when we need them,” said Heather Hilley, Project Manager for St. Johns County Public Works.

The project aligns with the Community Well-Being priority in the St. Johns County Strategic Plan, which calls for comprehensive training and robust wellness programs for Fire Rescue personnel. By providing dedicated living quarters, shared fitness facilities, and training space, the new station supports the County’s commitment to equipping first responders to serve residents while supporting their well-being.

The Sheriff’s Office portion of the facility will provide space for the Criminal Investigations Division, allowing detectives to relocate from their current workspace near the St. Johns County Detention Facility. The shared location is designed to support coordination between Fire Rescue and law enforcement personnel while providing additional workspace for investigative operations.

The approximately $13 million project broke ground in March 2026 and is the second facility in a broader County initiative to construct four similar combined public safety facilities over five years.
