Public Library System Announces St. Johns Reads 2025

St. Johns County Public Library System’s 21st annual “One Book, One Community”

The St. Johns County Public Library System (SJCPLS) invites the public to participate in their 21st annual “One Book, One Community” reading celebration, St. Johns Reads, beginning Jan. 2, 2025. This event, focused on creating a shared conversation on a selected novel, will feature various programs based on “Klara and the Sun” by Kazuo Ishiguro.

“For 21 years, this program has not only fostered a love of reading but also helped bring our community closer together,” said Kim Odom, Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Manager and Chair of the St. Johns Reads Committee.

Additionally, St. Johns Reads will offer a variety of fun and educational events throughout the month, all inspired by “Klara and the Sun.” These will include in-person and virtual book discussions and book clubs. Patrons are encouraged to visit any of the six SJCPLS branches to enjoy the themed programs that are offered:

  • Listen to guest speakers Nick Andrews and Dr. Richard Marks
  • Learn about robotics and solar cooking
  • Watch live performances by Rising Tide Productions and the University of North Florida Music Technology Ensemble
  • View film screenings on the topic of Artificial Intelligence
  • Participate in arts, crafts, and so much more!

“Klara and the Sun” is available for checkout and can be enjoyed in multiple formats, including print, digital audiobook, and e-book. About the novel: “Klara is an Artificial Friend with outstanding observational qualities, who, from her place in the store, carefully watches the behavior of those who come in to browse and those who pass on the street outside. She remains hopeful that a customer will soon choose her. ‘Klara and the Sun’ is a thrilling book that looks at our changing world through the eyes of an unforgettable narrator and explores the fundamental question: What does it mean to love?”

Funding for St. Johns Reads is supported in collaboration with the SJCPLS Friends of the Library groups. For more information about this year’s event, please visit www.sjcpls.org/st-johns-reads, email sjcpls@tblc.libanswers.com, or call your local branch library.
