The company will offer swimming lessons, aerobics, and more
St. Johns County has signed a contract with Planet Swim, making it the new operator of the swimming pool at the Solomon Calhoun Community Center (1300 Duval St., St. Augustine).
The contract was approved by the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners at its regular meeting on April 7. Planet Swim will offer the swimming lessons, water aerobics, free swimming time, and more that visitors to Solomon Calhoun have come to expect.
Daily costs will remain the same: $2 for seniors, military veterans, and children, and $3 for adults. Planet Swim plans to maintain the following core schedule year-round, with various swimming programs scheduled throughout the week (PDF) and the potential to expand programming:
- Monday through Friday: 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
- Saturday and Sunday: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“Our top priority is continuity for the community,” said Gustavo “Gus” Calado, CEO of Planet Swim. “We want current members to feel confident that the programs they know and trust will remain in place, while also benefiting from extended hours and enhanced service. From there, we will thoughtfully build on that foundation.”
“This opportunity represents more than just facility management,” Calado added. “It’s about building a vibrant, inclusive aquatic environment that serves all members of the community—from young children learning to swim to adults seeking health and wellness solutions.”
“We’re excited to work with Planet Swim to provide great swimming opportunities to the community,” said Ryan Kane, Director of Parks and Recreation.
