The primary focus of the Training Section is to ensure that the Department is fully capable in providing all types of emergency response—preparation and planning are essential in ensuring a safe, efficient, and effective conclusion to an emergency event.

The requirement for retrofitting fire sprinklers in High-Rise buildings, Section 31.3.5.11 of NFPA 101, has been on the books since 1998 and effective since 2002. While the dates have changed several times over the years the requirement remains the same.

On September 17, 2024, at 5:01 pm in the County Auditorium (500 San Sebastian View), the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners will hold their second and final required public hearing to adopt the Fiscal Year 2025 Millage Rates and Budget.  The meeting will follow the procedure as prescribed by Florida Statute 200.065. The Fiscal Year 2025 Tentative Budget, as presented on September 3, 2024, totals $1,750,868,966.

Each year our residents lose money to unlicensed individuals and craftsmen posing as contractors. Use these guidelines and resources to protect yourself.

Storage of any wrecked, dismantled, partially dismantled, inoperable motor vehicle, recreational vehicle, trailer, boat, or special purpose vehicle is prohibited. A vehicle is considered inoperable if it is being stored or parked with any wheels missing, any tires flat, or if it does not have a current license tag. Motor vehicles, mobile homes, or trailers of any type, without current license plates (except vehicles customarily used in agricultural pursuits) must be in a completely enclosed building on any residential, OR, CN zoned property

The St. Johns County Health and Human Services Advisory Council was established by Resolution of the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners (BCC) in 1995. The BCC determined that while County government historically provides health and human services, government cannot and should not attempt to solve all health, mental health, substance abuse and social problems. But government can provide a way to address these problems and seek solutions and remedies in a coordinated and efficient manner. In keeping with this focus, the HHSAC was established to exist and serve as an advisory body to the BCC on such matters.

Commissioner Henry Dean, a long-standing St. Johns County resident, began an extensive career in government and politics shortly after receiving his Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Iowa in 1970 and his Juris Doctor from Florida State University in 1974.

Health and Human Services Contacts

The primary goal of the St. Johns County Health and Human Services Department (HHS) and the St. Johns County Health and Human Services Advisory Council (HHSAC) is to assist families and individuals to lead healthy, stable lives, and to achieve the maximum level of self-sufficiency possible. The SJC Health and Human Services Independent Agency Funding Program is a reimbursement program that aims to provide social services to St. Johns County residents in need. The funding will provide necessary financial assistance to non-profit agencies that serve eligible county residents.

St Johns County Housing Counseling Program is granted HUD (Housing and Urban Development) Approval as a certified Housing Counseling Program.  For the past several years St Johns County Health and Human Services has been moving forward to provide St Johns County residents the availability of housing and credit counseling based on HUD (Housing and Urban Development) standards. In December of 2018, the Department received this approval.

The Housing Finance Authority of St. Johns County (HFA) was established for the purpose of alleviating a shortage of affordable housing facilities and to provide capital for investment in such facilities for low-, moderate-, and middle-income families in St. Johns County.
